Samsung Galaxy S Advance gets official

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S Advance smartphone. There are no real surprises and boasts the same features we mentioned yesterday. The phone is an upgrade from the original Galaxy S device that comes with 1GHz dual-core processor and 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display with curved glass design.

The phone runs on Android 2.3 OS and comes with 14.4Mbps HSPA, 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 720p video playback and recording, A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, 8 or 16B of internal memory, 768MB of RAM, Allshare, FM Radio, microSD card slot and 1500mAh battery.

Samsung has also customized the device’s software with TouchWiz UI, Live Panels and pre-loads apps and services like various Hubs – Readers, Game, Music, ChatON messaging service, Find my Mobile, Kies Air, Samsung Apps and more.

It will be released in Russia first in February followed by CIS, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Southeast and Southwest Asia, Latin America and China.

Samsung announces Series 9 All-in-one PC in South Korea

Samsung has announced its top-end all-in-one PC in South Korea. The Series 9 900A7A boasts an asymmetrical premium design and comes with an ultra-slim 27-inch monitor that measures just 11.7mm. The AIO however, is packed with features.

It is powered by Intel’s Core i7 2600S processor and features full HD resolution support, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6730M GPU, USB 3.0, Blu-ray, 3D support, HDMI port, Live TV support, JBL stereo speakers and a full HD webcam.

The Series 9 all-in-one PC will cost 2,690,000 won (US$2368).

Kodak files for Bankruptcy

In a not so surprising move, one of world’s oldest camera maker has filed for bankruptcy in the United States. The company has voluntary filed Chapter 11 petition to reorganize the business structure to “bolster liquidity in the U.S. and abroad, monetize non-strategic intellectual property, fairly resolve legacy liabilities, and enable the Company to focus on its most valuable business lines.”

Kodak has also gained a $950 million credit facility from Citigroup that will help the company to enhance liquidity and working capital.

Kodak says Chapter 11 will enable them to maximize the value of their digital capture patents and printing and deposition technologies.

Cowon launches Z2 Plenue Android PMP in South Korea

After D3 Plenue, Cowon has jumped again in the Android arena with the launch of Z2 Plenue Android media player. This PMP is schedule to go on sale in South Korea soon, and will be available in 8/16/32GB memory variants.

Cowon Z2 Plenue features a 1GHz single core processor, 800MHZ VPU, 320MHz MALI3D, 3.7 inch AMOLED display with 800×480p resolution, 512MB RAM, Android 2.3, FM Radio, HDMI out, JetEffect 3.0 & BBE + with 39 presets and microSD slot. As you would expect, it comes with support for plethora of codecs.

It will compete with the likes of Galaxy Player 3.6, and Sony Z series. In terms of pricing the 8GB version has been priced around 190,000 won, while 16 and 32GB versions will go for 259,000 won and 339,000 won.

Samsung starts mass producing Embedded Multi-Chip Memory for entry-level smartphones

Samsung has started mass production of Embedded Multi-Chip package (eMCP) memory to cater to the rising demand of entry and mid-level smartphones. The new eMCPs use Samsung’s 30nm-based LPDDR2 RAMs that deliver a data transmission speed of 1066Mbps and 20nm-class NAND flash memory.

Samsung says the new eMCP solution will help to deliver enhanced performance and a longer battery life, thus giving mobile phone manufacturers a simpler design process.

The new eMCP solution will come with 4GB of NAND flash memory along with choice of 256MB, 512MB, 768MB RAM.

Galaxy S II sales surpass 5 million units in South Korea

Samsung has announced that its Galaxy S II smartphone has reached a new milestone in South Korea. They’ve sold over 5 million Galaxy S IIs in their domestic market to channels and distributors in just nine months of its launch.

Samsung says Galaxy S II is one of the few phones in Korea to reach such a milestone and has been enjoying decent sales since its launch.

Samsung’s Korean smartphone market share stood at 53 percent for 2011.

Samsung has announced new models in its successful Star range. Star 3 and Star 3 DUOS phones are touted to bring social networking experiences to feature phones along with an affordable price.
Apart from the dual-SIM functionality Star 3 DUOS boasts, both models are virtually the same. The phones come with only EDGE support and feature a 3-inch QVGA TFT LCD, 3.2MP camera with video recording support, TouchWiz Lite UI, music player with SoundAlive, 3.5mm headphone jack, Stereo FM with RDS, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, ChatON mobile messenger, microSD card slot (up to 16GB) and 1000mAh battery. Star 3 weighs just 95g and measures 58 x 102 x 11.5 mm.
Both devices will be available in late January in Russia and will be rolled out in other regions like CIS, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Southeast Asia. Star 3 DUOS will be available in Southwest Asia as well.
